2021 Wairarapa Art Review Winners showcase
The 2021 New Zealand Sotheby’s International Realty Wairarapa Art Review was one of the most hotly contended art competitions of the year, with a staggering 145 entrants for the chance to win one of only 8 awards.
Jason Burns was the 2021 winner of the Rosewood Premier Award and the People’s Choice Award. Jason exhibited Spanish Tomatoes at the Watson Gallery. It was collected by Aratoi because the social commentary in the painting relates largely to Masterton.
Hélène Carroll was the 2021 winner of the Rigg Zschokke Highly Commended Award. Hélène donated the six-piece artwork to Aratoi after her 2020 exhibition Imperfect Offerings.
Harry Watson was the 2021 winner of the Jane Hyder Portrait Award. Harry donated his winning artwork to Aratoi after the Wairarapa Art Review.
Lisa Nelson was the 2021 winner of the Pete Nikolaison Photography Award. Lisa’s photograph was purchased from the 2019 Wairarapa Art Review and given to Aratoi by anonymous donor.
Leah Creaven was the 2021 winner of the Gwen Saunders Exciting Use of Colour Award. This piece was purchased, with the assistance of the Friends of Aratoi, from Leah's first solo exhibition at Aratoi titled Land Girl.
