Aratoi holds a large collection of taonga Māori, entrusted to our care by Māori and Pākehā families. Many of the woven taonga – korowai, kete and piupiu - had been owned by local families since the 1800s.
The exhibition features traditional and contemporary raranga from the collection, including kahu kiwi (kiwi feather cloaks), tāniko and tukutuku panels created for Aratoi by local marae when the museum building opened in 2002.
