Hamish Clayton’s remarkable first novel Wulf met with high critical acclaim. Wulf provides an intriguing insight into early 19th century New Zealand, chronicling Te Rauparaha's conquering of Kapiti Island and the experiences of this country's early explorers.

 Craig Cliff won the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize Best First Book Award for his short story collection, A Man Melting.

Eleanor Catton’s first novel The Rehearsal was published in more than 10 languages and collected several prestigious literary awards. She is now the Ursula Bethell Writer in Residence at the University of Canterbury.
