VELVET the longfin eel has migrated to Wairarapa and Aratoi is participating in the “Traveling Tuna Tapestry.” Learn about this unique NZ animal of mystery and its place in freshwater ecology, and help raise awareness and save it from extinction.

Stephanie Jo Bowman is an artist and educator from the United States on an Art/Science outreach tour in New Zealand. She will be running tapestry  workshop. For more information check out her website: http://www.bowmansart.com/eel_conservation/eel_conservation.html.

For this workshop participants are asked to bring along some scrap fabric which can be cut out to represent fresh and salt water fish species. These will be sewn into a section of the long tapestry being created by students and communities around New Zealand.

Local artist and activist Sam Ludden will co- present the workshop with Stephanie sharing his love of the river environment and his tuna(eel) sculpture. Sam lives and works with his family  at his working studio 'Dirty Fingers Pottery' on Victoria Street Masterton.
